I’m home! I can’t help but say that every year when I drive down Big Tree Lane. Since my first visit in 1987, I have made many friends at Geneseo and it always feels more like a family reunion than an airshow. For the past few years my wife, Bernadette, has also attended helping me capture images of the Greatest Show on Turf. While I focus on the aircraft she has been able to capture some great images of the people at Geneseo. This year we brought our eleven year old nephew, Nathan, who has always expressed interest in going with us on our aviation adventures. Using an old DSLR camera of mine he explored airshow with his first friend at Geneseo, Bailey, who is the son of one of our friends from the Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation. He showed Nathan the ropes and they roamed the show looking for adventure.

Going through Nathan’s photos I saw parts of the Geneseo airhsow that I have neglected to capture or pay attention too. He had photos of the re-enactors encampment, the trolleys that haul people around, all the booths and unique merchandise as well as the great outdoor breakfast that is made every morning. He had an incredible time. Not only that but my wife and I were able to send him on his first airplane flight in the Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation’s 1946 Fleet Canuck with our good friend Andy. Nathan was able to feel the controls of the Canuck, fly over Letchworth State Park and see Geneseo from the air as well as share airspace with P-51 Mustangs, Stearmans and all the other aircraft out joy riding Saturday evening.

When it was time to rest we headed for the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group’s Antonov AN-2 where our good friends from the Warbird Information Exchange had gathered. Each year we meet for laughs and good times. This year I was even present for the group photo.

Every year Geneseo offers a few surprises and some must-see aircraft and the highlight for many was the return of the Red Tail P-51C “Tuskegee Airmen” and first time performers P-51D “Never Miss and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Fairey Firefly. While these aircraft are impressive I have to say the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Westland Lysander and Jerry Yagen’s Dragon Rapide stole the show.

I hope our photos bring back memories for those that attended Geneseo 2010 and for those that did not there is always next year.
