The 2009 Geneseo airshow celebrated the 30th year a World War Two airshow had been held at this rural grass strip in Upstate New York. The show was a little smaller then previous years due to several reasons but still packed a big punch as it always does. “Go Navy” was the theme and several interesting World War Two Naval aircraft were featured in the event. Grumman was well represented with a Wildcat, Hellcat and TBM Avenger. Three Corsairs, 2 FG-1Ds and a F4U-5NL, dominated the line up of fighters. A rare Curtiss Helldiver, Consolidated Canso and several Naval Aircraft Factory N3Ns supplemented the naval theme.
The show also featured a Heritage flight consisting of a F-15 Strike Eagle and P-51 Mustang as well as many L-Birds and trainers. Although rain storms interrupted the Saturday show most of the aircraft flew but Sunday saw crisp blue skies and a full show from 10am until 5pm. The Grand Finale started with a dual Corsair aerobatic routine which lead into a three ship Corsair formation that was later joined by a B-25 Mitchell and P-51 Mustang. The show ended with all five aircraft repeatedly beating up the field for many minutes and making more passes then I could count.
A special thanks goes out to all the staff and volunteers at the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group who make the show happen every year.
