June 21st crews for the Avro Lancaster and B-25 Mitchell arrived early to prepare the bombers for the flight to 8 Wing Trenton. The Lancaster, fresh off an engine rebuild, was test flown before the transit flight to ensure all was in order.
Eric, a Canadian Warplane Heritage Member, flew in the back of the B-25 with CWH Marketing Manager Al Mickeloff. Our job was to capture video and still images of the Lancaster wearing the markings of WL-O “Lady Orchid”.
Oshawa tower requested a fly-over so the Lancaster took lead for a pass over CYOO.
On-route we performed a loose turn to capture some images and video. With the Lancaster crew breaking in the new engine they could not perform power changes to hold a tight formation so James Bradley, flying the B-25 manoeuvred around the bomber in loose formation.
The Lancaster, flown by David Rohrer and Leon Evans took the lead for our arrival at 8 Wing Trenton.
After one formation pass the Lancaster set up for landing while James Bradley and David Ippolito carefully followed the landing and roll-out so we could capture images.
The arrival of the Canadian Warplane Heritage was well received and the ramp crew at 8 Wing could not do enough for us. Before to long the aircraft were towed away for the night.
