We visit the CWHM and have a look at some of the aircraft receiving winter maintenance.

Most notable aircraft receiving attention is C-47 Dakota RCAF FZ692, the only aircraft in the CWHM fleet with a combat record. FZ692 flew with the RAF on D-Day, it was transferred to RCAF 437 Squadron in September 1944 and will wear the markings it wore with 437 Squadron. Post war it remained in the RCAF and re-numbered 12945. The C-47 was obtained from the Canadian Government in 2014 and on June 6th will fly over Ontario on the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord. The official dedication of FZ692 will take place at the CWHM on July 6th during the museum’s Air Force Day.

The C-47 interior will be fitted with airline seats and be available this summer for passenger flights.

Another aircraft slated to fly in 2019 is the Fairey Firefly that is receiving new wing folding brackets. 

DH.82C Tiger Moth RCAF 8922 is nearing the end of a ground up restoration. RCAF 8922 was obtained by the CWHM in 1973.

Grumman Avenger USN 53858 is nearing the end of a long restoration with only a few minor items to be finished. It will be painted as RCN 86180.

Restoration of Harvard 20213 is now complete and waiting it's turn in the paint shop.

Winter maintenance on the Avro Lancaster has gone well with no major issues found.

Another project that will be finished in the spring is the refurbishment of CF-104D Starfighter RCAF 12641. Once finished it will be returned to its mount in front of the museum.
