Canadian Car and Foundry built Harvard Mk4 20304 was built in 1952 and was the 95th Harvard to come off the assembly line at Fort William, Ontario. The Harvard served for eleven years training at RCAF Macdonald, Manitoba and later at RCAF Centralia, Ontario.

20304 was sold surplus by the Crown Assets Disposal Corporation in 1964 at No. 6 Repair Depot, RCAF Station Dunnville. On December 7th, 1964, Gilbert Dressel acquired the aircraft and stored it in a barn near Wainfleet, Ontario where it sat for 40 years as a time capsule. Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association member, Greg Tyrell purchased 20304 from Mr. Dressel in 2006 with the plans to restore the aircraft to flying condition and dedicate it to his father Stanley Tyrell who served in the RCAF. Unfortunately, Greg Tyrell, passed away two years later when he developed cancer. In 2009, the Tyrell family donated 20304 to CHAA who vowed to restore the aircraft to flying condition in memory of Mr. Tyrell.

The airframe had never been touched and came to CHAA as a time capsule. All markings were well documented before it being stripped down to the smallest component. For over ten years CHAA’s volunteers have worked on restoring the Harvard to her former glory in the markings it wore when retired at RCAF Station Centralia. On October 25th, with members of the Dressel and Tyrell family in attendance 20304 was rolled out fully assembled to the sound of the RCAF March Past and dedicated to Gilbert Dressel, Stanley Tyrell and Gregory Tyrell. In a touching moment, Rev Bill White from Legion #501 in Lambeth had everyone in attendance place their hand on the aircraft as he blessed it. Over the winter final touches and paperwork will be completed with first flight planned for spring 2021. The aircraft will be the most complete and authentic Harvard in the fleet and plans are to take 20304 to the next Oshkosh for judging.
