First flight of the TU-114 had some 70 passengers on board. Air Canada had made it’s first Montreal-Moscow flight the preceding Tuesday. With a DC-8F. While the DC-8 made the flight in about 9 hours (not counting the half-hour stop at Copenhagen), the TU-114 would take 12 hours to make the trip. First flight arrived half- an hour late due to strong head winds over Canada.  This route was supposed to be inaugurated by the IL-62 but construction of the plane was a few months behind schedule.
