I met Fred at the 2008 Geneseo Airshow where he was flying a Stearman Junior Speedmail. He was one of those people you become instant friends with. I had the privilege of photographing Fred flying the Junior Speedmail over Niagara Falls while he recreated a mail flight from Geneseo to Niagara Falls. Before the flight he was sworn in by the US Postal Service so he could carry official mail on the flight.

Mr. Hallett, while on exchange with the Royal Canadian Navy, became a member of the RCN demonstration team Grey Ghosts in 1958. He flew the No.4 position for two years and is credited with suggesting the team’s name. Grey Ghosts was chosen because of the aircraft's two-tone grey paint scheme and a Banshee is ghost like. Captain Hallett was a United States naval aviator from January 1949 until July 1981. He accumulated over 5,000 hours flying time, has performed 250 carrier landings and flown 11 types of aircraft. It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Hallett at Charleston, West Virginia in 2018 and discuss some of the finer points of aerobatic formation flying.
